Welcome to the official website for the New York University ANST Interest Group!
The Association of Neuropsychology Students in Training (ANST) is the student organization for APA Division 40 (Society for Clinical Neuropsychology). In an effort to coordinate communication between itself and students across the country, ANST created an interest group program. NYU ANST, our university interest group, benefits from this involvement, providing us with plentiful educational resources. Any and all interested NYU students are invited to join!
Fundamental to the structure of NYU ANST are our bi-semester interest group meetings. Meetings are intended to promote a sense of community between fellow students in training. Members can discuss group professional goals, and talk about new findings in the field. The latter goal will be accomplished via the Neuropsychology Journal Club, an important component of NYU ANST. The journal club (as part of our interest group meetings) will meet to review a recently published paper in neuropsychology (or a related field). During the meeting, one member will review the basic findings and provide an overview of the strengths and weaknesses of the paper. Others are encouraged to comment, hopefully generating a rich discussion about the role of the research findings in our overall understanding of brain-behavior relationships. Depending on the level of interest, NYU ANST will work to organize field trips (e.g., campus brain imaging lab), or arrange for a guest speaker to visit. Throughout the year, various social events will be held to facilitate networking and enable members to get to know one another. Involvement with NYU ANST is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with students within the department, to learn about educational/training opportunities, and to structure your professional goals!
To Join:
Fill out the information on the Membership page, and your email address will automatically be added to the NYU ANST listserv. Emails are only sent one week before an upcoming meeting, with the article for Neuropsychology Journal Club included in the email.
Facebook Page:
Valuable information about upcoming conferences and campus events (e.g., relevant lectures, local training opportunities, job announcements, grant opportunities, student awards, and so on) will be highlighted on the NYU ANST Facebook page. I work hard to keep this page up-to-date, so please take advantage!
I strongly encourage those interested to first join APA Division 40. In doing so, you are automatically a member of ANST! Complete the Division 40 application here: http://www.div40-anst.com/uploads/5/6/0/1/5601196/division_40_membership_announcement_2012.pdf
Additionally, I recommend participating in the ANST listserv. By joining, you become part of a supportive community where students can engage in meaningful dialogue with peers and professionals at both the local and national levels. Members routinely disseminate training, educational, and practice information over the listserv, in addition to answering any questions directed to the ANST group. Join the ANST listserv here: http://www.div40-anst.com/listservs.html
Thanks for your interest, and welcome aboard!
